2024 General Conference 4/23 - 5/3. The Conference endorsed worldwide Regionalization and voted to update the Book of Discipline to remove the LGBTQ restriction on leadership and same-sex marriages. UMC Pastors can no longer be punished for performing a same-sex marriage.  Local churches (Trustees/Council) will decide if same-sex marriages can take place in the church. Local Pastors decide if they wish to officiate a same-sex ceremony. Prospect's policy that welcomes ALL will continue as it has been. Learn more from the Conference FAQ that explains Regionalization and all of the outcomes.

The vote at the General Council was immediately effective and did not require a ratification vote at the Virginia Annual Conference.
